500 MCM Wire

A 500 MCM wire is a kind of wire that is used to conduct electricity and telecommunications signals. Average sizes of wires are determined by a range of wire gauges. A 500 MCM wire gauge is a measurement of how thick the wire is in either diameter or cross sectional area. A solid wire is one piece of metal wire. A stranded wire is composed of two or more wires that are twisted together to make a larger conductor of electricity.

A 500 MCM wire can be determined as one of three varieties of wires known as a hook-up wire, magnet wire or a resistance wire. A hook-up wire has a small to medium gauge. It can be solid, stranded, insulated and is typically tin-plated to assist with soldering. A magnet wire is a solid wire that is usually made of copper and used for the winding of electric motors, transformers, inductors and others. A resistance wire is a wire with excessive resistivity that is used for heating elements.
